Tesla Camping in Hot Weather
In hot weather, the main issue is the heat already stored in the cabin and glass. Direct sun, warm interior surfaces, and humid air all increase Camp Mode cooling demand after the car is parked.
A cooler cabin at sunset means less work for Camp Mode overnight. Shade and window covers reduce the heat the system has to remove after dark.
Hot-Weather Tesla Setup
- Use shade when the overnight location offers it.
- Install fitted window covers before the interior has absorbed hours of direct sun.
- Allow more battery reserve when cooling demand will be high.
- Keep airflow around the sleeping area instead of blocking vents with bags or bedding.
Camp Mode Cooling
Camp Mode keeps climate control running while the Tesla is parked. The hotter the cabin is at bedtime, the more cooling Camp Mode has to do.
A cabin that has been sitting in full sun starts with hot glass, seats, trim, cargo, and bedding. Giving the car time to cool before the sleeping area is fully set up reduces that initial heat load.

Glass, Shade, and Window Covers
The large glass area is a major source of summer heat. Fitted covers reduce direct solar gain and also provide the privacy and light control needed after dark.
Shade late in the day can matter more than shade early in the morning because it keeps the roof, hatch glass, and rear sleeping area from carrying as much stored heat into the night.

Airflow Around the Sleeping Area
Bags and bedding can restrict air movement in the rear cabin even while Camp Mode is running. Keep the climate outlets clear and leave enough space for cooled air to reach the sleeping area.
A small fan can move conditioned air around the mattress when the rear cabin is crowded.

Battery Reserve in Hot Weather
There is no fixed overnight percentage for hot-weather Camp Mode use. Cooling demand changes with outside temperature, humidity, sun exposure before bedtime, cabin setting, the vehicle, and the length of the night.
Use the first hot night as a reference. Note the battery level when Camp Mode starts and again in the morning, then allow more margin when the next stop is hotter, more exposed, or farther from charging.

Parking Surface and Evening Heat
Asphalt, concrete, walls, and bright pavement can continue radiating heat after sunset. A shaded location with more open air can reduce the heat around the car during the first part of the night.

Humidity and Wet Gear
Humidity increases the cooling load and makes damp gear harder to dry inside the car.
